General Country Information

The country’s population is about 3.2 million total, with a literacy rate above 80%, more than half owning cell phones and about 245,000 internet users in 2005. A large majority of 75 % is Ibadi muslim. The country was one of the most isolated countries until the 1970s when the absolute ruler Qaboos bin Said al Said took over.
