UAE: Mideast Youth's 'sexual terrorism' site is banned

UAE-based Internet users can no longer access the site of the 'Sexual terrorism' campaign by Mideast Youth, the organization reports.

"I thought it had to do with the fact that it has “sex” in the name, however many other sites with “sex” in the URL work so it must have something to do with the content", said Mideast Youth director Esra'a Al Shafei.

The website focuses on human trafficking in the Gulf; it has reported on the Dubai-based Armenian prostitutes and the Nigerian ones who are grossly mistreated and underpaid.

Last week, the US-based group Human Rights Watch released a report denouncing the treatment of immigrant workers from Sri Lanka in the Gulf Countries. Possibly, the UAE authorities figured they had enough bad publicity for a week.

Linking to this video [a PBS/Frontline documentary about prostitution in Dubai] at every opportunity probably touched a nerve too, added Al Shafei.
