Areas of interest
The northern Lebanese city of Tripoli has been the scene of violent street clashes between Shia and Sunni street youth in the impoverished areas of the city that has left at least 90 dead. Over the next four weeks, MENASSAT and Arab Images Foundation will document a series of workshops with some 80 young people from two of the poorest neighborhoods of Tripoli, Bab al Tabaneh and Jabal Mohsen, scene of the bulk of the fighting. The stories will be told by MENASSAT correspondents and more importantly, by the youth themselves, on both MENASSAT's main site and the online Arab Media Community. These workshops will result in the production of a short movie, "Washem bi Al'ayn" (Tatooed eye), by Youmna Itani, in which selected youth from Bab El Tabaneh will play themselves.

Learning Cinemagraphic Techniques

To get the students acquainted with the camera the audio / visual facilitators offered basic camera and audio techniques. 'My name is Racha and I am from Akkar'

While most of Lebanon has been at peace since the May 2008 powersharing agreement, the northern city of Tripoli has been the scene of intense street fighting between Bab al Tabaneh, a Sunni neigborhood, and Jabal Mohsen, which is populated by Alawites, who are a branch of Shia Islam. The fighting has so far claimed 90 lives, and it is further complicating the lives of young people in neighborhoods already tainted by poverty, crime and drug abuse.
